I've picked the last of the sugar snap peas, so will the plant throw out more flowers now or is it all finished? If finished, could I bung in some more runner beans, or is it too late? I'm a bit naive about growing veg you see...

Most likely, finished now. Ours are. Gone all yellow? You won't get any more, then.

It'sa bit late for runner beans now, they won't really get going before the frost gets them. Well, where I live, anyway. But if you're in the south, by all means give it go, you should get at least some beans.

Ohh, we are in the south, I might hoick out the peas and plant beans right this moment! Thanks!
Yes the peas will be finished now. Why not plant dwarf French beans instead of climbing beans where the peas were. It's a little bit late but with the dwarf beans you can more easily throw some fleece over them to protect them from chilly evenings. I find when I do this I just about manage a second late crop.
usually if you've picked peas bare, that the plant of course, they don't flower again. I believe you should pick a few often, but never strip the plants for continuous flowering.
Not that it's ever worked for me

Thanks for all your answers. The peas are now out and some runners in, not many, just to see if I will get any. I have another set of dwarf french beans coming through now so thought I'd stick to runners.

Interestingly, last year I grew the same sugar snaps, but I thought they were mange tout kind and I picked them when they were at that stage. I'm sure I got more, and they lasted longer, probably because I was constantly picking small amounts. This year I left them to develop longer, and they seemed to stop putting out flowers.

Just to let anyone know who's interested, my 2nd runner bean crop is going strong (it's now mid October) and I've been harvesting them for about three weeks. They are not as big as the summer ones, which is probably a good thing. I'm sure the mild weather has helped!
