In need of a good hob cleaner

I have an old style electric sealed plate hob (NOT CERAMIC) and need a decent cleaner for it. I used to be able to buy special black cloths that put the black colour back into the rings (a bit like shoe polish I suppose) but I can't find this anywhere anymore. Does anyone know of anything I can try?

Thanks!

When I had this type of cooker I used to rub olive or baby oil into the the plates and leave it for a while to soak in and then buff it up with kitchen paper. it was a tip my Mum in law gave me and quite effective.
