Hi all

The black cast iron thingies on my hob (I hope you know what I mean - you sit your pans on them) need a good clean. They are marked with grease etc and even though I wash them all the time, they never look clean. Can anyone recommend a good cleaner for them? Thanks.

Frequently scrubbing the supports is effective but you can also use Cif or Fairy Power Spray. Do make sure that the supports are thoroughly dried after cleaning to prevent rusting.
Another thing I do is soak them entirely in boiling hot water in the sink or a bucket with washing powder & soda crystals. Let them soak for 15-20 mins and then scrub (while still hot) with a dish washing scrubbing brush, then finish off with a scourer, they come out a treat.

Hi Jack, I soaked them in soap powder for a while and then give them a scrub. They came up ok but not brilliant. I'm going to try some CIF spray as you first advised. Thanks.
Tip...after getting them clean, keep them that way by sticking them in a dishwasher every few days.
cast iron in a dish washer?????
