Flies in Recycling Bin

I have a garden/kitchen waste recycling wheelie bin that is collected fortnightly. IIn summer it is infested with flies & the only place to keep it is near to the house (small garden). I hate the flies that end up in the house everytime I open the bin & wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to how I could keep the flies down?

I don't want to stop using the bin as I want to recycle & don't have room for a composter or wormery. Would a Vapona block hanging into the bin do the trick?
Thanks.

Maybe someone can come along with some more specific advice but mother puts a green powdery product in her bins which keeps flies away. All the best.
Jeyes Bin powder might help and also helps to keep the bin smelling sweeter.

I'm intrigued Thunderbird+, hopefully someone will offer a name, thanks.

Thanks patsyann, never thought of Jeyes.

There are various aerosol spray cans which will kill flies, wasps and other flying insects. If you give you wheelie bin a quick squirt with this every time you add something, this should help keep the problem at bay.
Jeye's!! thats the one, thanks Patsy. Do I get a star for team effort ?
