I was about to give up on one of my camillias as following some sort of disease that covered the leaves with a black coating, it failed to flower. This year however it has tried. As I am reluctant to dig it up can I prune it, and if so when and how hard

A. Beginer , It sounds like " Black Spot " like roses get . it is a fungus . it is caused by high humidity or alot of rain or splashing water from plant to plant . you can use Ortho garden disease control every 7-10 days as long as wet weather is there .only water at roots in hot weather and in the a.m. that way the plants can dry before sundown. i was always told never put your garden to bed wet due to so many diseases it can get . Also you can prune all off ( don't compost it will get everything ) trash clippings then spray with lime - sulfur solution instead of Ortho garden disease control . hope this helps !! tamtam401967
