Washing machine repair

I have an Indesit Washer/Dryer which I bought almost three years ago, so it isn't covered by warranty anymore.

I used it over the weekend on a cycle that should only take about 70 minutes. About three hours later, I realised that the machine was still running, but the dial hadn't moved on through the programme - it was still in the same position as when I switched it on. I manually turned the dial to the "off" position, turned the machine off, then manually turned the dial to the next part of the programme, where it proceeded to complete the cycle with no further problems.

I have since used the washing machine twice more on different cycles, but it is doing the same thing. As the machine completes the cycle once the dial has been manually turned and it rinses, spins and drys OK, I'm thinking that it possibly isn't something mechanical, but rather something wrong with the electrics.

Does anyone have any hints on what might have gone wrong? I have been quoted 109 from the store I bought it from for parts, repair and 13 month guarantee which seems slightly steep to me.

Thanks

hi, try this site, www.washerhelp.com i have used it many times with good results, all the best john.
I had a similar problem with my dishwasher a few years ago. The engineer said it was simply that the dial was a bit grubby(!) and so was sticking. It was the kind with a knob sticking out of a larger disc, the whole thing was designed to pull straight off for cleaning so he cleaned it, sprayed it with a bit of furniture polish and hey presto, all fine again.

Now, obviously, I'm far from an expert, but thought I'd share just in case it helps!
The exact same thing happened with our washer and we were told it was simply a problem with the program control not working. I can't remember exactly how much we were quoted for the repair, but it wasnt far off the price of a new one, which we ended up getting as our machine was by then 10 years old

seems as though its waiting for water to heat up.may be the heating eliment has gone.can you try cold wash, be carefull, if you dont know how to test, DANGER 109 could be cheap.eliment is 10-20..
