Greetings --
I just wondered if anyone had found the holy Grail of getting rid of blanket weed once and for all. I have tried all sorts of potions including those barley mats -- some work for little while and then back it comes with a vengeance.
Yes I know I could use a cane and twirl it around that but I would've thought that in this day and age there must be something simpler.
I would be grateful if anyone has any more ideas -- Best wishes -- tonetheteach.

evolution a..or cloverleaf, from aquatic stores may help, otherwise keep the sun off your pond, yep, easier said than done......also i think nitrate helps weed grow atb.
Sorry not an answer tony, but I'd sure like to know of a magic cure too. I dont want to use chemicals or exclude the light which may affect other plants, so for me its back to the twidley stick, little and often. Hope someones got a better idea ?

Stevie-p's answers are good...the cloverleaf chemical treatment is supposed to be awesome. Barley straw will not get rid of blanket weed....just green water and that can be hit and miss.

So, the only way you're really going to rid it is to deprive it of its nutrients....sunlight and fish waste.

As it'll be hard to stop the fish waste, i'd plant it up with lillies and lots of plants which will keep the pond covered.
A good filter and UV will help matters as will a good balance of plants...both water and marginals. And don't over feed.

Otherwise, it's back to manual methods.

roundup it is phenominal
