I have a Hoover Dust Manager Cyclonic, and it is HOPELESS. Really plasticky and rubbish, with no suction. I need another one desperately. Please can anyone recommend one which will actually make vacuuming easy?

We have a Dyson DC07(some 4 years old) which is top quality in terms of 'sucking up power'. It also has a good stretch capability for cleaning stairs etc. and is easy to empty and maintain.

It has a downside though in that it is a heavy beast. That said I think that there are now lighter/smaller versions made by Dyson and I have no doubts they are equally as efficient. I can't see this machine breaking down for many years yet and whould certainly turn to Dyson for any future replacement.

dyson all the time

We've got a Dyson telescope. God bless Mr Dyson.

my first dyson was dco4 had that 6 years and since i went for the dco7 for hair attachments i have had that 6 years and my son is still using my dco4 so that makes my first one 12 years in use and no problem. only problem i had with this one the small plastic pipe underneath split and that is easily taken off and replaced about5. might think they are a little expensive but they are worth every penny

and click on the "reviews" at the bottom right. I owned one which was more than 25 years old when I finally pensioned it off (actually gave it to our cleaning lady who was delighted, having used it commercially for 5 years). I admit this model is not cheap, but there are others on the page and I am totally convinced about the build quality of this make. I can't say the same about Dyson, though - Our local electrical shop wouldn't sell them or repair them! Where I now live, the Council Recycling staff take the goodies to the regular Wednesday morning Council sponsored Car Boot/Market to sell. Last week, they had no less than 12 Dysons and 2 or three other makes (no Nilfisks though!). I think that says it all about Dysons.

By the way, my Nilfisk was so quiet you could answer the 'phone next to it whilst it was running - try that with almost any other make.!!

Sorry, I should have made it clear I meant the GM80C.

to tony1941 sorry to hear you have not got a good word for the dyson but I would have another I have a golden labrador and you know the hairs they shred.not a hair to be seen after hoovering . and stair attachments easy to use. my son has had my old one 12 years and still good. I think people buy and if satisfied with it stick to that make.I do same with my car always have ford but that is my choice.

This is the best you can get but very expensive

if you can afford it, go with Touremans suggestion.
I have two Miele cyclinder vacuum cleaners, one for downstairs and one for upstairs. I have found them both very efficient and they can certainly suck! There are various settings from low suck to high suck and they come with various tools such as a circular dust sucking brush and a long thin tube for cleaning in difficult crevices and narrow gaps.
I do not recommend dyson at all. I had one and it was great for about 6 months and then gradually just wore down and I had to buy a new one alast week. I hated my dyson, it was awful.

However, I have just bought a Miele cat and dog which comes with turbo brushes and I bought a HEPA filter to go with it. (it comes with a clean air filter, but my son is allergice to dust so I replaced it with a HEPA)

It is THE bEST hoover in the whole wide world. i cannot recommend it highly enough. the turbo brush head is phenomenal way better than my dyson ever was and is reportedly meant to last for 15-20 years. It's suction is amazing and my cream carpets look cleaner than they ever have and i don't need to dust so frequently.

Amazing.
i have 8 cats (1 is a long haired ) 2 dogs ,1s a gsd and a horse not that the horse comes indoors but his rugs do full of hairs i have an upright dyson that my son brought home( hes a bin man) some one had thrown it out as one of the wheels had come off my husband put me a new wheel on it and my good its magic heavy but my god does it pick up the hairs
I have a Miele and a Dyson, which are both very good. I didn't find any real difference between the suction on either of them. The Miele is much lighter than the Dyson though.
I took the advice of the above and ordered myself one of the GM80C vacs now that the price came down a little (229.99)

I'm amazed by this vacuum, it's very simple and down to earth but the suction and design is really impressive. 5 year warranty as well. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to write a review in 5 years time and see if I've needed to use that warranty. I hope not!
