Unless you're in a very cold area now is ok to prune.

now is a good time to do it but wait till it stops raining or you will get wet

I hope to venture out into the garden next week & pruning the roses will be on my agenda.

Now is a good time before they waste too much energy pushing out all those new green shoots. Try to avoid doing it if the weather is frosty though.
