Painting Laminate Floor

We are currently decorating our bedroom and it has a laminate floor put down by the previous owners. We have been quoted for all the things that go with a carpet and its just too much and we cant afford it so we have decided to paint the laminate. We have lightly sanded it, and plan to put down primer and use floor paint made for the job, and I was wondering has anyone tried this and does the paint job last in the way of scratches etc? Thanks
