How can I remove moss from a tiled roof and prevent it from returning?

You could try turning the house around or spray with a bleach solution. You won't get rid of it completely unless the roof is kept very clean.
There is a solution to this problem, you can have a copper ridge fitted to your existing ridge. when it rains the water flows down the copper and onto the roof. the "patina" from the copper coats the roof and eliminates the pesky moss. good luck
