Does anybody have any ideas where I can get a list of what needs what fuse? I have so few sockets in my flat I have to rely on extensions and as I want to get a set top box I need to know if the socket will take another plug, hence the need to know about fuses. Thanks

For most things in your place which are NOT heaters you can usually safely assume that each item will take 1amp and should have a 3amp fuse and that you can add up a few on each wall socket outlet.

Heaters are a different thing - fan heaters, washing machines etc... you should assume that each item takes at least 10amps and should have a 13amp fuse and only one per wall socket outlet.

I think the answer lies in the wattage of the appliance.

A 1Kilowatt fire/appliance = 1000watts. Divide this by the power supply voltage say 240 and the answer is slightly over 4, therefore use a 5 amp fuse.
