plasma tv above a fireplace

I'm thinking of mounting a plasma tv on the wall above a fireplace (where lots of people hang mirrors). Is the heat from the fireplace going to cause a problem for the tv?

Sorry i dont have a propper answer for you but you could, maybe fix a heat shield above the fire,you know the hammered copper type ? It should reduce a lot of the heat going straight up. just an idea

This is not the best place to put an expensive bit of kit and apart from the heat it could be affected by smoke. It depends on the type of fire, gas would probably be ok. Hang a thermometer on the wall and see if it is within the manufacturers limits.

Would it not also be rather uncomfortable if you sit in a relatively low chair looking up for long periods of time at a point above the fireplace?

Surely placing the screen at eye level would be better.

with the heat from the fire and from the back of the plasma (trust me they get very hot!), this is not advised.
