We have a bad fishy smell in part of the house and cannot think what might be the cause. Area is single storey, fairly newly built frame and brick extension. Sometimes is seems like urea, butt there is no plumbing in this part of house. Any suggestions what might be causing it?

Have you had new carpets laid? they can sometimes smell nasty.
We had this once and it was a plug. Check your electrics.
It was in my kitchen and I searched high and low and cleaned and scrubbed but could still smell fish.An electrician friend of ours said you get this when a plug burns out.
I agree it could be a plug or did they put insullation in the the cavity wall of the extension we recently had a convservetory done and it smelt like cat wee we were told it was the insullation and that the smell would dgo which it has
New buildings often smell like this can also be chipboard flooring but builders sometimes have nasty convenient habits!!!

Have you got hollow curtain rods?
Have you recently fallen out with an Ex?
I'm not being nosey, but there is an apocryphal story been doing the rounds on the internet for years now where a jealous ex-lover stuffed prawns in the hollow curtain rods before leaving. The smell got so bad he had to move . . . and of course took the curtain rods with him!

Sometimes this can happen if a light bulb is melting some plastic or part of the glue on a lampshade .. check all your lights ....
