or is draining away but so slowly can't use it.
Do you have a plunger?
Question Author
i do but it hasn't been effective.
Try some bleach, if not there are lots of products available, have a google
Pour a large amount of Mr Muscle power gel drain cleaner down it then leave it for half an hour. Follow it up with a kettle of boiling water. We have always found this works even doing it in a holiday cottage we once stayed in when the water wouldn't drain at all. Good luck Emmie!
Mr Muscle or Buster?
Or try a drain rod.
I have successfully used a bottle brush combined with boiling water and bleach. Kettle of boiling water, lots of bleach. Leave for an hour then plunge a bottle brush down the plug hole. This is very messy and black gunk will spatter everywhere. I try and wrap a rag around the plughole when I pull out the bottle brush to contain the mess.
Repeat with the boiling water and bleach.
When you tried the plunger, did you remember to block up the overflow outlet with a cloth? If you didn't do this the plunger won't work as you don't create the essential vacuum.
I use the same method as Kustard but I put it down just before bed, giving it all night to work.
Once clear repeat 2 or 3 times a year as a prevention.
Agree with diddlydo. I unblocked mine with a plunger this way, but I blocked the outlet with a damp cloth.

Presumably the sink basin has water in it .

So I would wait for it to eventually drain , before putting bleach in it otherwise you will just be pouring bleach into the water in the sink and not down the hole ?
Question Author
thanks for the advice, will try bleach.
I unscrew the pipe, separate the U-bend, then clean it out, and put it back together. Works every time.
Question Author
thanks but no thanks, i have no skill where it comes to this sort of thing, besides if i tried it and flooded the place i would have to call in the council and they will not take kindly to being called out, what would essentially be my fault.
If your taps are turned off, you won't flood the place. However, I understand Emmie. You should report it to the council and make do with your kitchen sink. Let them do it for you.
Question Author
i know. i have a shower that works fine, will perhaps try the bleach or sink buster is that what its called?
If it’s a seriously gunged up blockage then bleach may not do the trick. You’ll need something like Mr Muscle or soda crystals.
Question Author
not sure why its suddenly blocked. will try Sink buster and see if that does it.
I would try the plunger again with the overflow hole blocked up - costs nothing!
