Is it possible to grow a bay tree in a pot outside the porch on a North facing wall?

they are hardy but need good light, so not if the position is shady. If you live in a cold area , you may need to wrap it during the winter.

I've had a bay/laurel growing outside my kitchen door (also north facing) for about ten years now. Growth is slow but it looks in good shape. good luck..

many thanks to woofgang and logman. We'll give it a go and see what happens!!
They can cope with some shade pmothersdale but should really be protected a bit over winter - fleece or bubblewrap around it and a layer of straw over the soil will help.
