Not sure of the model, but have lost the manual. On this inside on the left hand side, there is a dial with the numbers 1-5. Does anyone know what it's for?

Is it to do with the rinse aid dispenser. 1 - 5 suggests quantity dispensed.

...or how often the water softener refreshes. Is it close to the reservoirs for either rinse aid or salt?

This is the water softener setting, leave it at 1 if you have soft water or move it up towards 5 if you have hard water.
