powder coated steel

Is it possible to paint on powder coated steel? I am buying a bed in dark brown and thought I could paint it white but my friend informed me it's impossible to paint on powder coated steel (it's from ikea).

Powder coating is a durable finish, which can be painted over using standard household gloss paint (eg to match house colours) if required.

There is a fantastic spray paint out there called 'appliance white' or similar, it is for repainting kitchen white goods freezers and the like, very good finish and sticks fantastically to powder coating.
