Spent the entire afternoon clearing out.
Originally only intended to clear out a few bits and pieces from my draws and ended up going through my entire flat. Got on a roll I guess!
Just found half a dozen unwanted mobile phones and chargers in my draws alone that I had totally forgot about, not to mention various techno bits n pieces.
Ended up chucking half filled paint cans, clothes, various bottles of cleaning products, unwanted linen, out of date food, etc etc.
Some have gone into a charity bag, most has gone into my (communal) skip.

Ive always had a 'thing' about waste and recycle where I can, but sometimes, there really is no need to save everything 'just in case'! You just end up with a house full of cr ap!...and end up having a bloody good clearout.

Don't know what it is, but I feel so much lighter for getting rid of a LOAD of stuff....

What a lot of rubbish. :-)
I want to move house. My wife wants to move house. My Garage and workshop couldn't house a Dinky Toy. I think I'll just have to endure London till I snuff it .Can't be arrised at my age to get rid of the junk.
:-(

LOL Douglas ^^
It is nice once it's done :-). I couldn't believe how much I had to get rid of when I moved house. I don't even know where it all comes from.

But why do we collect so much 'stuff'?
Ive never considered myself a materealist and yet....I collect so much stuff?
Just chucked out bags of stuff (and still got loads to haul up to the local charity shop)
As the old advert used to say 'Men just can't resist acting on impulse'.

That's one why.
Me neither... I blame the kids :-). I like minimal things in certain places. They like maximum clutter in as many places as possible... :-)
what do you mean by "we"? I don't save half-filled paint cans, historic mobiles or out-of-date food. Maybe others do, but I wouldn't swear you were anything like a majority.

That explains all the ex's Doug, but what about all the half empty cans of paint?
Oh hang on a min...
You do feel a lot better when it's done. I have a purge now and again and feel so much better for it.

I just wish I could get Mr T to do something with his cupboard full of vinyl L.P.'s. Why does he want to keep them? He never ever plays them now.
Perhaps I may consider chucking out my promotion vinyl copies of several early Beatles 45's. No one want's that carp do they?
my biggest mistake was donating mine & dads vinyls to charity & being told they were binned as Oscar Peterson, Pattie Page et al are not popular.

Pls sell yours on ebay - am re stocking
the youthful way is white walls and minimalistic look. Costs more to have less though.

Best off keeping it as it is rather than broken plastic bits floating around forever or near on
A lot of my stuff is kept for sentimental reasons but as I get older, I have begun to realise that, in actual fact, it matters to no one but me.

I have to be really ruthless and get rid of most of those things that remind me of something in my past. What's gone, is gone.
Good question, Nailit. Ai really don't know. Ide have to think about it. Mullet over.

Which I will do when I'm at a luce end.

I don't really collect "stuff" I usually think carefully before I buy things and I`m a bit tight like that. I have wasted literally hundreds of pounds on clothes and shoes that I have never worn though. What a waste of money. Time to go to the charity shop.
Just today I was wondering the same!!

I need a clearout!

There is an amazing book called Material World: A Global Family Portrait.

photographers took portraits of 30 statistically average families across different parts of the world with all of their worldly possessions displayed outside their homes.

It was eye opening.... and shows material things don’t bring happiness
Mr Cal is a minimalist neat freak- except he isn't- the place looks like that but only because every cupboard in the place plus an entire room is heaving with the weirdest junk you ever laid your eyes on, plus he has a storage container with even more carp. I collect my own weirdnesses as well but I'm quite chill with my clutter :) I do have about fifty grands worth of 10p carrier bags under my sink in the UK though which could do with going :/
We have a lot of clutter and I have a real thing about not throwing any of the kids’ old shoes out in case I throw the wrong ones out. We also have an excess of old tech stuff (on the tv stand I can see a broken iPhone, an unused mobile, tablet and iPad - I just don’t know what to do with them).
