We have been looking at paints today as we are having the house decorated shortly.

Just want to know if Farrow and Ball paint worth the amount it costs? Is it very special? If so, in what way?

Its low quality at a high price, Tilly. If you've got a Johnsons merchant near to you, then I'd go there. They'll mix the colour exactly.
you need to discuss with your decorator - i read some charge more because it's harder to apply
Ive always found Wilco's paints to be good quality for a low price.

Thanks for the tips, Melv, Bednobs and Nails.

His (the decorator) quotation is for Dulux paints. He has an account with them. It's just that we were looking at The Farrow and Ball paint and wondering why it was so expensive.

The colours are fantastic though.
all the others do a matching service
Question Author
Do they, Bednobs? Can I take a farrow and Ball colour chart into the Dulux department and say, 'I'd like that colour please'?
The Dulux paint matching only goes to the nearest colour on the machine.

So they don't do 'Elephant's Breath?
F&B paints are very difficult to colour match. They use a lot of chalk in the mix to simulate the old paints that were in use before modern acrylics and alkoids came along.

Other manufacturers have now got onto F&B's niche market with cheaper products.

Thanks Mr B. We have chosen Dulux paints. They do have lovely shades also.
What colours did you choose, Tilly?
I think it is all about the colour. Crown and Dulux are just as good

Melv:-

Morning Light.
Egyptian Cotton.
Almost Oyster.
Mineral Mist.
Jade White.
Willow Tree.
You must be having the whole house done!

...more or less, Melv. They start today!
Professional decorators hate F&B paints as they’re watery and take at least 1 more coat to cover. Dulux will match so close that you can’t tell the difference. It won’t be called elephants breath but something like 1010 Y43.

Thanks, Zacs. We haven't gone for the matching service with Dulux, we've gone with what is says on the tin. :-)
Tip Tills..... The Jade White has a slight blueish tint when it dries. We went with the Apple White in the end.

Awww!

Thanks for that, Togo. I doesn't matter, it'll still go with the curtains. :-)
