I have a problem with my landline phone which a BT make, calls to their technical department cost 65p per minute ! which is ridiculous when it is about one of their own products. I have tried an 'on line chat' but their only advice was to call the technical team.
Does anyone know another way of getting in touch with them ?

what is the nature of the problem? Is it that you don't know how to use a certain feature, or is it malfunctioning? Where did you buy the phone?
More details needed....are you sure the problem is with the phone and not the line? If the phone, how old is it?
(I can't think of any reason why I would want to speak to anybody at BT's "technical department", to be honest!)
Get rid of the land line like so many people have been doing in the last few years
Getting rid of a landline can affect your credit rating.
Getting rid of the landline is all very well, but its needed if you want internet access.
Are you quite sure about that Mikey?
Eccles....how are you going to be able to have internet access, if you don't have a physical line to the house ?

Only possible if you use a fibre cable connection, like Virgin, but that is still a "phone line" in all but words.

You can have the physical line and not a have telephony over it if you like, but the wires/fibre still has to exist.
The clue was in the word 'phone' in the OP.
Most things can be checked via the website, what exactly is the problem?
Thanks Eccles....I missed that !
You can easily get web access without a landline. Mobile broadband with a dongle for pc or laptop use is one such way. How do you think that mobile phone users get onto the internet? Yo can keep the landline but get rid of the "phone" facility also.
0800 800 151 is the number on the website for landline issues which should be free to call?
Togo....I do that in my caravan in Cornwall, but its much more expensive and slower than a proper home connection.
Yep I know, but some networks are now very fast and catching up. I have just taken delivery of my nice new BT homehub 6 smart hub, ready for fibre connection on Monday(as we are speaking). Got a bit of connecting up do in an hour or two. 7 devices. :((
Sorry for divert Foxhaven(got a bit excited). Is your web connection through the landline? If it is good it is unlikely to be a "line" problem I think. Have you tried a different phone plugged into the line? Do the BT sites show a recognised problem in your area? What exactly is the "problem"?
OP says "a problem with my landline phone"....and I asked at 11.20 "are you sure the problem is with the phone?". Not sufficient a problem to warrant an answer, so far.
I have not had a land line for at least 6 years (how much would that have cost) and used a dongle and wifi with EE . I do not find it slow at all and find people today having land lines rather quaint. I would think they will all be gone within 10 years or maybe less

Well - lots of responses, thank you all - the phone line is fine as checked by BT via TalkTalk and I have tried a different phone in it.
The problem is that it is very crackly and it won't send or receive text messages - which it did okay previously
