I sometimes put a dish of left over meat out for visiting cats. I did this tonight. I usually know when a cat has arrived as the patio light comes on.
But no light so far tonight. I had a quick look out the door and there to my horror were about five enormous slugs. They were about five inches long and all over the dish. I chickened out and came in quick! OH wouldn't do anything either.
I had noticed a lot of slug trails on the patio lately but didn't connect it.
I think I'm going to have to put the dish on a chair or will the slugs climb up that too?

Thought so Mamya!
Hate hate hate slugs.
I hate the feel of slugs! often get one on my hand when I'm gardening. Makes me shiver.
What purpose do they serve?
//There is no 'point' to slugs, any more than there's a point to lions, mosquitoes or humans. Organisms do not exist to serve a role as part of some higher purpose; they exist because they are able to. It's the property of life to expand and diversify to fill all available ecological niches. Slugs are capable of much wider colonisation than snails because they don't depend on a source of calcium to build their shells. They cause a lot of damage to garden plants and crops, but they also help to clear away rotting vegetation and are themselves a valuable source of food for toads, slow-worms, beetles and birds.//
I sometimes get them on the outside of the window, give you a nauseous feel.
Yes, Mams, they make me feel sick.
buckets of salt melts them down -
I flick them off a surface onto the grass for the birds.
...with a stick.
Well I think that they're beautiful, even if nobody else does!

I thought there was an "invasion " last year. Is this another one?
I haven't dared to read the link...*shudder*
I'm going to get that for my avatar, if I can work out how to do it.
You're weird Chris...;-)
Jenny....as much as I hate them that is really cruel!!
They fascinate me Chris. just don't like the feel of them and what they do to the plants
Jenny is right...salt works. I used to drown them in it as a child. I still would.
Salt works but it's cruel!!
