i am having trouble removing the rotary blade. the retaining nut has completely seized up. B&D customer support told me that the nut is left hand thread (ie the opposite of what you would expect). i find this hard to believe. Ive never seen one on any appliance. in any case the nut is jammed in both directions. Anyone got any ideas on this? There is nothing in the user guide notes.

Have you tried the obvious? (i.e. squirting loads and loads of WD40 all around it)
Not believing customer support seems a little odd. If the blade spins in an anti-clockwise direction then an anti clockwise locking nut would prevent the blade from a tendency to unlock it. Spray it with WD40 (other loosening aides are available) and leave it overnight. Use a long handled wrench / spanner.
I think you'll find that they are correct....something to do with preventing it loosening as it's spinning round.....
B&D customer support inform you that the retaining nut is left handed and you find that "hard to believe"?
Do you think they are deliberately misleading you?
There are left handed threads on many appliances e.g. the left pedal on a bike, for pretty obvious reasons.
I suggest you persevere in trying to loosen it clockwise.
I've found Plusgas to be better than WD40 at freeing seized nuts.
Yep, my strimmer is the same, otherwise it would be likely to undo itself.
Turn it (if you can) clockwise to undo (I always have to think about it).
Check for string wound around the spindle or nettle stems, remove with knife.

Agreed. WD40 is a great water repellent and an OK loosener, but Plusgas is better for the tough ones.
Assuming this is the correct leaflet . . . and you have a copy

https://www.2helpu.com/PDMSDocuments/EU/Docs//docpdf/emax34i_emax34s_emax38i_emax42i_emax42ri_t2_uk.pdf

Page 2 reads:-

To remove the blade: Turn the appliance onto its side. Using heavy-duty gloves, grip the blade. u Use a 13mm spanner to loosen and remove the blade bolt (25) by turning the spanner anti-clockwise (ac). Remove the blade (26) and blade bolt (25).
