There is not usually a need to paint the interior as the protection is largely against rainwater and sunlight. I have used an oil-based protection, Barretine on a new shed this week, although in the past I have used water-based products such as B&Q's own brand timber treatment. The oil-based product will probably last longer before re-coat, but I believe that it is less environmentally-friendly than a water-based product.
Personally, I can't see much point in painting the interior.
Also the fumes could be an issue with some products.
I was instructed to do inside and out first time..then only outside..oil based treatment ..I use Ronseal..
