ABers of a certain age may remember the tide of 'Boat People' who fled Vietnam after Saigon fell to the communists. Hoax letters did the rounds stating the recipient has been selected to have a refugee family billetted with them.
Would similar missives, mentioning Syrian families, directed at the owners of under occupied properties help the Britex cause?

The lucky liberated southerners were then herded into re-education camps learning such things as the Communist party of Liberation was there to stay, elections werent that necessary and common ownsership by the people was a Good Thing. The only people who escaped this were the secret collaborators of whom the American found, there were Quite a Few

It took a few years for the future Boat People to realise that it wasnt gonna change in the near future. so they took to the boats in 1978-9

and I think they have done quite well as it was basically the economically educated trading classes that upped sticks and fled...

as with the ugandan asians ( 1973) the follow up data shows they didnt become a burden on the state ...

Just as an aside, I recall getting an official looking letter back in the 60s. I was about 18yrs old and was to report to the local town hall to be part of the new New Defence Corps to help with the clean up in the event of nuclear war. I was to report with my own helmet, overalls, stirrup pump, mop and bucket, and 4days provisions. I can tell you that for a few minutes, I was like.........what the.......

a senior colleague at work was initally taken in with a maliciously forged letter from the Palace saying he was now "O.B.E second class".
It came with 'frequent traveller clasps' denoting how important his trips to the Ministry were. That last point rather gave the game away. He was of course Very Hurt as how his efforts at improving the lot of the common man had been so misunderstood
