Lost Kitten - 2 Hours Of Terror

I got a new kitten on Friday and this morning she went missing. I turned the house upside down (I thought) and then had a complete breakdown as I thought she'd got in the washing machine with a load I'd put on. I fell apart, I couldn't look, I prayed (daft I know) and was beside myself, sweating and shaking. When my partner came in an hour or so later I told him and he said he had to check the machine. I sat on the floor and blocked my ears begging some higher being that she wouldn't be in there. He came and found me and said she wasn't there and then 5 minutes later she appeared from under a sofa. Not a question just so relieved and wanted to get it off my chest. I was so terrified.

It's horrible when they do that isn't it... deep breath and cup of tea/glass of the good stuff.

Picture of kitten perhaps? Hint, hint... ;o)
Oh they're buggers for that aren't they?

Mine's an indoor cat, and I go through moments of blind panic if we've had the back door open or any length of time and I then can't find her. I'll almost rip rooms apart looking for her. I've now learnt however that if I rattle her food box she'll come running, and usually from a room I was convinced id searched every nook and cranny in beforehand.
hello prudie

they are little darlings aren't they
she was undoubtedly only exploring her new home, and may possibly appear to be missing once or twice more whilst settling in

do not fret
Many moons ago, I remember the tumble dryer constantly going bump... bump....bump, so I opened the door to find our little kitten looking rather frazzled!! Poor thing.
Oh God Ratter! Was it ok?

I was just about to say that I bet it didn't go in there again after that did it? But I bet i'd be wrong!
next time, buy a horse ;o)

poor you.. my heart was pounding for you!
Lol Prudie you are not alone, Piper has just started going out at 9 months - I panic if I do not see her for 30 mins go out call her name etc.

Mr FGT goes upstairs and she is soundo in her basket!!

Thanks guys, I've had 3 cigs and a G&T, I'm so relieved. I mean if she had been in the machine (or the dishwasher) it would have been my fault, I don't think I'd ever come to terms with it. I will upload a picture at some point.
Phew! Glad to hear it ended well!

I know a lady whose cat, sadly, met its end in a tumble dryer. How awful for the poor puss, and for her too.
Poor thing - I won't say anything about the power of prayer, just glad your little kitten is, and now you, are okay!
Been there Prudie...horrible isn't it. I had shut mine in a cupboard by mistake....well obviously by mistake...but there is a suspicion that she didn't respond to my calling her for flipping hours just to teach me a lesson. x

I'm going to put signs on the machines now - check kittens.
with respect Prudie, wouldn't it be a lot better for your mental health (and the kitten) if he only had access to the parts of the house where you could keep surveillance and put him in a kitty playpen at other times?
kitty playpen = a cage???
Question Author
The only thing I'd put in a play pen is a toddler, pesky things LOL. No the answer is for me to be careful until she's too big to get into trouble.
not for hours, but while you do things like load the washing machine/dishwasher, go to the loo or shower, open the front door and so on. I bet if kitty had been in the washing machine, you would have given anything to have put her in the kitty pen before you started loading the machine....
Ah Prudie these little heart stealers are sent to terrorise us! You'll eventually get into the habit of making sure you locate the kitten before turning on the washing machine/dishwasher/oven or closing cupboard doors - its amazing how quickly they can dash in somewhere without you knowing. I'd love to see a picture and hear more about your new baby :)
No 1 Son got shut in a cupboard once - he went in there for a nosy and knocked something down so he couldn't paw the door back open. I felt awful, poor chicken.
Oh Prudie, I'm glad she was ok. You must have been so worried. But I have to say that is typical cat behaviour - they do have an evil streak and love winding up their humans!
Bless you - thank goodness happy ending!
