The small sink in my downstairs loo has stopped draining properly. I have tried unblocking it with stuff that you pour down but that didn't work. Today I opened up the U bend and pushed a wire down as far as it would go to see if anything was there, but no luck :( Any suggestions welcome! TIA

Try using a sink plunger but remember to block the sink overflow with a flannel or similar when plunging. you say you opened the U bend, did you remove it and ensure that it was clean?

Was the pipe below the U bend filled with water?

If so you may have a blockage in the sewage system below the house, you may need to locate the inspection cover and check.

Ratter, there was water in the U bend and I made sure it was cleaned. Now I suppose I will have to try and find the inspection cover but I haven't got a clue where it is!
There will always be water in the u bend, was there water in the pipe below the U bend?
Question Author
There was no water in the pipe but I've found the inspection cover and will have a look tomorrow :(
