I live on a main road and have have noticed that a lot of smokers now stand outside their front door to ''ave a fag', I presume they have kids or don't want to pollute their homes ( why don't they just quit??) but why do they stand in their front garden and not the back?? You'd think they'd want a bit of privacy??!!

Why would they want privacy? They might like watching the world go by as they have a fag.
Its their front garden - they can do what they want.

It may be that they don't want their house to smell so they smoke outside.
If there is a safe back yard/garden, I use that if not then the front it is.
To stand outside is our choice. Shall we all go back indoors then?
probably showing off to the neighbours that they can afford a fiver for a packet of fags
I often have a ciggie in the front garden as the sun is at the front of the house in the evening.
unless its a pack of 10,you'll be lucky to get a pack of fags for a fiver, more like £7odd now.
Probably not that easy to quit mayennaise, some people enjoy it, goodness knows why. Yuk.
A fiver? obviously you don't buy cigs.
why privacy? - it's not an offence! OH chats to the neighbours while he's out front, he wouldn't see anyone in the back garden
lol was a heavy smoker many years ago and a fiver bought me pack of 200

But my neighbour's front door is right next to my lounge window and the smell drifts in to say nothing of the conversation!!
If it's offensive there is nothing to stop you having a word with him....
well shut ya window then;-)
Nasty conversations and smokers do not necessarily go hand in hand...have a polite word.
May...it that's your only worry in life...smile and join in the conversation. x
And who's got their windows open at this time of year? It's February and minus 1 0out there?*

(*maybe slight exaggeration)
//why don't they just quit??//

Not saying you're one of them but the snotty nosed 'quitting brigade' used to make me more determined to continue smoking.

There is no such thing as 'just quitting'. I've been free from the fags for going on 9 years and still think I could easily light one up after dinner, but I don't because it was so damn hard to give up properly. It took a serious health warning to push me far enough to finally really quit.

I feel that smokers that puff outside are considerate and on the increase. I still don't mind peeps smoking in my vicinity, although after smoking they do stink for a while, and a full ashtray smells revolting.

I expect if they smoked in their back gardens you would moan about the smoke coming in through your back windows.
As it's now less and less socially acceptable to smoke, they're just conforming to the stereotypes we see huddled under awnings and pergola's outside pubs:

Snoutcasts!
