I have a genuine "Cheongsam" dress (I think that is how you spell it ) it was made for me in Hong Kong 55yrs ago, still in it's original wrapper. I don't know if this has any value what- so -ever, but it would be nice to get an opinion on it, could not find an "antique" site. Any suggestions anyone ? Many thanks in advance.

I'm sorry I don't know if it has any value, but do you have a local am-dram group or a fancy-dress hire shop near you to asl for advice?
There are a few vintage clothing markets around that might be interested. They usually specialise in western clothes but you never know. BVintage Bazaar is one such.
Vintage clothing, that's the term I was lookiing for, thanks 237 :-)

ask not asl d'oh, fingers on holiday.

Many thanks, I forgot to add that all those years ago it did fit me, sadly no longer !!, I don't think an O.A.P would look too good Too many lumps and bumps! thank you all.

Im jelous i LOVE vintage clothing- i had a quick google and some are listed at £50....id try ebay if i were you!!?

I buy all my vintage clothes from ebay xxx
I'm jealous too, lovely style of dress. Actually my mother has 2 also made in Singapore about the same time as yours. They are both pure silk and stunning. I have them now and couldn't bear to part with them.
Don't take it fancy dress or am-dram places - our am-dram doesn't value stuff, and our fancy dress buys, not sells, for effect rather than value.

I'd take it to an auction house and ask them to value it for you - or look on eBay, see what they are selling for. This one here is £45.00 http://www.ebay.co.uk...g&hash=item4ab5fe4a69
Id love to see it! Im now sitting on ebay looking at what icant afford :0(

Damn me and my ebay addiction lol x
Off the point slightly - isn't there some kind of covention about the availability of the occupant according to how high the slit goes or the length of he dress?
If so - how high does the slit go? ;-)

Thank you all very much for your replies, its lovely to see my dress sparked so much interest. Info for "shoota" the side split is 9 inches, bear in mind that I was very young and the amazing details are, that when my penfriend Sailor asked for my measurements to enable him to have the dress made my Mother was absolutely furious that this young man had the audacity to ask for them, and I had to get permission from my older brothers (who had both been in the forces) and guessed why he was asking the question, to be able to send my vital stastistics. Happy Days !! Thank you all.
