Why does my freak of a cat prefer to drink the dirty water that gathers in a tub in the garden than the fresh stuff I put down in his clean bowl every day?

Ah it's the flavour. You just can't beat the 'dirty tub' taste.
i had the same problem with my eldest
because its not fluourinated they can smell it ours preferred evian
Cause he/she's a cat - contrary at the best of times but I love them.
One of mine just loved bath-water!
They are very individual creatures. Very.
One of mine would only sleep in the washandbasin in the downstairs loo.
Try moving the water away from it's food. cats don't like drinking water close to their food as it may have been tainted by the food they've "killed"

(yeah ok, they don't kill a tin of whiskas, but the instinct to not drink water close to their food is still there)
My two dogs would rather drink 'fish soup' from the fish pond, lick the patio after a rain storm and every night they visit me while I'm in the bath for a handfull of warm soapy bath water. They have 3 bowls of fresh water around the house but they only drink from those if they absolutely have to.
I'm the same with my water : )
two of mine prefer the toilet (just have to remember to flush religiously!). they can be such dirrrty mares x
My cats do just the same to the point that I don't put fresh down now as they never touch it.
Cats are known to prefer 'brackish' water to fresh - let's face it, they wouldn't get tap water in the wild...
They don't like the taste of the chlorine in tap water (neither do I). My cat is fine drinking boiled water from the kettle, all the chlorine has evaporated from it once it has boiled. But give him water straight from the tap and he looks at me like I have two heads.
I remember putting fresh water down for the cat we had years ago and then I saw her drinking out of a rusty old tin which had collected rain water. There's no pleasing some cats.
Mine drinks out of the bird bath, she likes bird poo flavoured water.
At least your cat drinks water, I've yet to see mine go near his water bowl! On the plus side he does like worms it turns out and they must be manly water,
My cat only drinks water from a glass or cup. He won't drink it if I put it on the floor, it has to be on the work surface.
he is obviously a superior, up-market cat ummmm. Thinks he is a human being.
we don't bother with a waterbowl indoors any more - they drink out of a green scummy plant saucer out in the garden, or a rusty old shovel. If I put water in the kitchen, they kick it over. The only useful thing I found in the kitchen waterbowl one day was a live frog.
My cat will drink the dirty manky water from the little handle holds that collect rainwater. It is so dirty and i chase him but he looks at me in disgust, but he will also drink clean fresh water.
