Is it lazy just to give my daughter money for her birthday?

I always get her a little something to open - but am stumped as to what to get for her main present. She's 'funny' where jewellery is concerned, and her boyfriend usually gets her perfume. Last year I paid for her hair to be cut and coloured in a big famous salon, this year I just don't know what to do. I want it to be a surprise, I've tried asking her boyfriend and her sister if she's said anything about what she wants, but she hasn't.

Hi Repunzel, good to see you btw :-)))
I'd go along with money.
I don't think it's lazy, particularly if she has most things - she can put money towards something she wants. If she has a favourite shop, you could buy a voucher for there?
Yes, I am sorry to say that it is. You have asked us our highly valued opinion and here it is. You should never give people money as it means you have not given it enough thought.

Sorry to be so negative but I am just speaking my mind here.
best things in life are free, but monet sure is handy, happy B/D to your daughter anyway
I would rather have money than a present I don't want or like, however carefully chosen.
I think money is fine, at least you won't get her something she doesn't like. Or tickets to the theatre possibly?
I have just thought of the perfect gift. A lifetime's subscription to the best site in the world which is Answerbank.

What gift could beat that?

I was thinking vouchers, but then you're tied, aren't you?

Would you beleive it! my youngest daughter just phoned me and said her sister was moaning about the state of her winter boots - all the salt has ruined the leather, but they are a few years old now. That's that then. Time for a cuppa I think!
How about a day at a spa?
oops sorry, your post wasnt there when I submitted mine lol

Sorry, hello bobbisox!!! Nice to hear from you too
My daughter, grand daughters, step daughters all prefer money. They get money off all grand parents, parents etc so they can go and buy what they want.

She'll be 22, my other daughter is 24, and my son is 28
money in a nice card can't be beaten! xx
i don't think it's lazy at all - money is a universally acceptable present i reckon
You could always buy her a horse. Then that would be her "mane" present!
Over a certain age I think money is fine. Around here, children take a fiver in a card to a birthday party which I find really odd. If my children ever get money for their birthdays of Christmas I let them spend it on a toy or game.
