It goes to show how stupid feuds are when firefighters were lost because there was a 150 year old one with the police.
it still brings tears to my eyes to think of all those poor souls who were murdered on that awful day...
just watching it on 4+1 .......................... yes, very upsetting, i agree....
I remember the day it happened,I was doing some work for my niece and she had just made a coffee and got the cake and biscuits out when they broke into the program she had on we thought it was an accident till the other plane hit. It was terrible Kate was in tears and I had to switch off I couldn't watch any more
I remember Steve Wright giving updates during his show as he watched on TV in the studio. It was unbelievable then and even now, having seen so much footage, a bit hard to grasp.
I remember the day it happened - it sounded like a mistake. We were at work, it just said on the radio that a plane had collided with one of the Twin Towers- so we got out the little telly and watched it, aghast. It didn't seem real.
remember that day so vividly!........my mum was in hospital, and that was the day that we were told that she could not survive!......she died two days later!.....
It's become one of the dates which everyone will remember where they were when they heard about it. If you're in your 80s, you'll remember precisely where you were when you heard that World War II was over. Slightly younger, it will be either the assassination of JFK or the first moon landing. A generation on, and it's the death of Diana and the 9/11 atrocity.
I was on holiday in Spain with my daughter and granddaughter, the TV was on in the Hotel lounge as we walked through to the pool but the sound was turned down. I thought it was a film until later someone mentioned how awful it was about the towers. I read the book by one of the firemen who went in to rescue people, it was quite harrowing to read.
when you see the footage and the horrors its no wonder the u.s went nuts in their attempt to find the people behind the atrocity..ie guantanemo bay and things that we dont even know know about in the ''war on terror'',yes innocent people were in the detention centres but werent the 3000 + people murdered on 9/11 innocent too??i salute the efforts of the west in the ''war on terror''..even today 10 years after the twin towers attacks the terrorists are still seeking to harm us and they have succeded on numerous occasions, and the bravery of our armed forces serving, and dying to protect us from their evil activities are to be commended..lest we forget these brave people..
We were on holiday in Tunisia in the late 1980s when they first bombed Libya - like, the next country along the coast. We didn't know whether to be scared or not.
Well said stokey.
Markrae - true, it's the only times I remember - death of Diana and 9/11 - think these dates will stick with all us old enough to remember them, RIP all the 9/11 victims :(
I remember it so well. I was at work, the manager's son phoned her to say put the radio on now, we were all gathwered round it listening to the harrowing news, it was so upsetting. Someone went home and brought a portable tv in so we could see it, not much work was done that day.
I was in school, first few days back at school and start of a new school (year 7). A teacher came into our geography class whispered to the teacher, the teacher then went and got the class tv and we all watched in horror xx
That amazes me, roxie - what were you, 12? (I don't do years so well, I think it would have been second form for me)
Would have been 11 at the time, going on 12 because of my birthday xx
My daughter had just come home from school. She had the telly on upstairs, and came down to say 'mum-one of the towers in NY has been hit by a plane'...I didn't believe her at first.
I later learned that my sister-in-law was due to meet a friend there that morning-but had to cancel.
I remember this clip of Bush and how he reacted after being told the second plane had struck, was it shock or just a dumbass President?

I guess he couldn't make a scene in a primary school? X
