Have any of you lovely gardeners hard pruned, into old thick wood, any of the following shrubs and had them live to see another year?!!  I read all the books but there's so much conflicting advice when it comes to renovation pruning.

Olearia haastii (Daisy bush)

Lonicera fragrantissima (winter honeysuckle - think this one will be ok)

Cotinus (smoke Bush).

Good morning folks. Yes off to dentists again today am dreading as I am such a coward!

What on earth is Whispering Dan?

Hope my emails are behaving themselves and sending o9ut more rude thingies!
Oh no, Hope emails are NOT sending out more rude things!
Robi, was thinking of you last night, are you feeling a little bit better, are some days bearable now without Charlie?
miffed.....I just had an answer removed in news....and it was more or less sensible.
Actually I am a bit chuffed today. The kidney place is going to start treating DH's anaemia and he is going to accept the treatment...he had been being a bit...well not adult about it...but at his last appointment he got chatting to a lady who is iller than him and has it and she says its wonderful.
Its chilly here but fresh.
Robi, I am thinking of you, also Neti at the dentist. Hi to everyone else...ha ha Neti, freudian slip, you LIKE sending out rude emails (grinning)
Ughhh! I knew there was a reason I do not go to the dentists, she took 1½hr to remove the root, bit by bit as it was like iron she said, and I am now in agony, she was cussing, took 2 xrays to see what was wrong. My whole mouth is throbbing and I am back in bed. I couldn't take anymore so she just stuck the errant tooth back and will go for more torture on Monday.

Good for Mr Woofy, makes sense.
oooh Neti, have a hot drink and a load of pain relief and get some kip.
Just taken 2 aspirins and had a bowl of cheesey scrambled eggs!
I've also applied for an evening job, 6-7 nights a week til 1.30 but don't know if Mr N will want me to, it's baby sitting and the pay would come in handy
sounds like it might be fun too?
Fun? I hope she'll be asleep, as there's sky tv and internet, suits me!
Oh poor Neti. Sounds horrible. I don't have any fear of dentists but just keeping your mouth open for such a long time is unbearable and then having to have all that pushing and pulling and then having to go back. Take care of yourself and try and get some sleep, sleep is a natural healer.

Six or seven nights a week Neti. Do the parents go out every night then or do they work!! Still it doesn't sound very taxing, unless, of course, the child wakes up. But what about having no evenings at all in your own home with Mr Neti? ...........................Come to think of it go for it!! ;o)

(How many hours per night?)

What thread in news Woffy? and what did you say - you rebel you.

Went for the usual coffee and cheese scone at the garden centre t his morning and came back with a free jar of expensive strawberry conserve and a free generanium. Used my Garden Centre loyalty voucher to buy some more plants and spent £1.30 (plus £4.70 for two mugs of coffee and two huge cheese scones). I love that place. It is so nice to have a place like that virtually on my doorstep.

It's dull today but still warm. I have been trying to garden since getting back from G.C. but everything is just dry and dusty - and it's making me sneeze. Pulling weeds is impossible. For goodness sake when are we going to get some rain!! I am getting desparate.

Good news about Mr Woof and the treatment.

Gonna have some lunch now, see you later.

xx
Woffy !!!!
Have had a little doze, mouth throbbing and all the other teeth that were Ok. Yes lottie it was keeping the jaw open for so long that was so painful.

I think the parents work in the evenings. It's all down to Mr N if he wants me too.
Neti has found the thread..it asked for views, so my first post was one word..."boring"
I guess the Ed has a hangover <sigh>

Thanks Woof. Have added my thoughts.
How pathetic is that woofy, I am surprised at the Ed.
This is on my regular dog walk - about 1 mile away from us, if that between our hamlet and the next. Do you think I should put in an offer?

Actually I think it is grim!! I thought it was being developed as holiday appartments!!

Crikey Woofy .You can't say anything on here these days .Pathetic is the right word for AB lately .I wouldn't ask a Q on here even if my life depended it .
It's run by the few for the few lately .All the humour has disappeared . Too many busy bodies with wooden spoons .
If it wasn't for our little corner I'd give it a miss.

Hope you are all OK today .Pleased to hear Mr Woofy is doing as told :)
It's as dull as ditchwater here .I'm piddled off and fed up in general .
Whispering Dan is Dan Cruikshank Neti .
He has a new series which started last night . The Country House revealed .
Hope your toothy pain has eased off.

Yoohoo Jno ..hope you are enjoying your trip in spite of having to wear all your clothes at once :)
Take care folks .xx

Evening all...as I read through your posts my reaction went something like...oooh, nooo...ouch.....yuk....tut(lol)...oh lovely.....oh ouch again....hahahaha. What a mixed list of nasty painful things and the odd bit of good news as in Mr Woofy's case. If the anemia is treatable then it's right he should go for it, he'll feel so much better woofy.
Hope your mouth heals well neti, that was an ordeal. I still have flashbacks of that extraction last year.
Still heap uncomfortable myself but in the grand scale of things & all that...I just wouldn't want to be pony trekking right now :o)

I'm thinking of having a turnstile put in the front garden...as the tree man left the diy-er arrived, I'll be getting talked about. :o) Tree surgeon brought his little terrier, she ran me ragged, a real live-wire. I was making tea & I heard her chomping on something in the living room...there she was, up on the armchair munching on a big log of wood she'd fetched in, haha.

Howdy jno! hee haa! <& other country & western noises>...hope you're having a grand time.
Is Arizona country and western?

Mouth feels a lot better now thank you, have eaten a bowl of porridge (with syrup and cream cos I'm not feeling well) and now a whole tin of Heinz spaghetti, haven't eaten that in years, but went down a treat. I thought for a moment that this would make me lose weight but don't think so now!

Oh shaney I saw that on my download site (whilst looking for whispering dan - murders?) but didn't have a clue. Will get it tomorrow.

I wish I could buy that house /estate thing lottie, would love to live there.

Robi at first I thought the terrier was munching on your settee!!!!
