My flat has new double glazed windows which can either tilt open into the room from the top only ...or open inward as a unit.

Problem is that there is only a gap of about one inch from the opening window to the top of the framework :no matter whether I choose blinds, vertical venitians or standard venetian or even curtains, whenever i try to air the room the window will hit the blinds. any thoughts are welcome

Why dismiss blinds? What about venetian blinds which can be pulled right up to the top of the window when you need to open it. When the window is shut you can release them again. Failing that, what about vertical blinds which can be pulled aside when you wish to open the window. As far as privacy is concerned though, you're not going to get any when the window is open are you?

If the window is in a recess(?) then you can fix the blind to the flush wall..?
