Will a six gang 2m. extension lead (surge protected) function if it is further extended by plugging it into a single gang (washing machine type) five metre extension lead ?

The single lead will go into the mains and the six-gang multi-plug will be plugged into the other end. It's for my computer and its peripherals, we just don't have enough mains sockets in that room. The person who's giving me the new lead assures me it's in good condition and fused.
Yes that sounds fine if all you are using it for is relatively-low load devices.
Its when you put heating devices (toasters, hairdryers, electric fires) into it that problems might occur.

Our surge protector lead had an instruction in the accompanying leaflet that it should be plugged directly into a wall socket.

It said plugging it into another extension could stop the surge protector operating properly.

I have absolutely no idea why.
