When was PPI first introduced? I keep getting calls from companies telling me I must have been sold PPI when I took out my mortgage. I had a mortgage in 1978 which I paid off in 1991 and I have never had a mortgage since. I have moved house 3 times since and do not have any paperwork regarding the mortgage I did have so my question is this, could I have been sold PPI back in 1978 and didn't know it and would it be worth trying to get any money back on what was a repayment of £59 a month?

One of my lenders wouldn't entertain a claim for a credit card I took out pre-1997, so there must a limit on how far back they will go.
I think it's just chancers trying their luck, I get calls every day about mis sold PPI
I doubt they'd be interested if you told them how long ago it was
I had mis-selling calls about my mortgage. I played along and asked them to remind me who my mortgage was with, They couldn't tell me! (Actually they told me that they weren't allowed for Data Protection reasons).
They will just be taking a chance. I bet if you ask them they won't know

Believe me I tried to tell the woman on the phone the timescale of events but she just wasn't getting it. This company has been calling me over 6 times in the past 3 weeks, I think I will have to go on the telephone preference scheme.
Definitely sounds like the chancers, there's always a pause when you pick the phone up then it's "Good morning and how are you today?".. To which I reply "Fine thanks, Bye"
You could always string them along susanxx. Give them your details as far as you're prepared to on your original mortgage and let them waste their time. If you get something out of it then good for you. If you don't you won't hear from them again.

If you are registered with the TPS they shouldn't be calling you in the first place. I am registered with the TPS and I get the occasional call too. I tell them I'm going to report them and they hang up. If I have the number displayed they called from I still report them to the TPS

Yeah Dodger666 I was thinking of waffling on until they realised that it is seriously out of date. Next time I will let them keep asking questions until the ppi penny drops!
