Apparently our wise and trusted Premier has only just discovered that Foreigners are taking advantage of our NHS, but at the moment we are not 'tough enough' right now to prevent them from doing so.

/// Speaking to workers at B&Q in Eastleigh, Mr Cameron said the health service should not be free for foreigners from outside the EU. Britain must also get better at charging other EU countries when their citizens use the NHS, he added. ///

All very well him saying that, but isn't it him who holds the power to put an end to such things, I wonder why he hasn't already?

I wonder why he had popped into B&Q?

/// Mr Cameron this week launched a review into how foreigners access benefits. On a visit to support the Conservative Eastleigh by-election campaign, he said this review will look at all welfare payments and services, including health, housing and legal aid as well as traditional benefits. ///

Yes but I bet the foreigners will not be at the top of the list of cuts, it will be aimed at the less fortunate amongst our own citizens.

There's an election going on. He knows that bashing foreigners is very popular with certain sections of our population, so will pick on an easy target. One that will not, in most cases, have a vote.

God, I hate politicians.
perhaps you do hate politicians, not so keen myself, but i also hate for some people who have paid diddly squat into the system in this country, be in foreigners or home grown to get a free ride.
Bit late reviewing legal aid to foreigners - Abu Qatada has already had it all.
Well put em, agree 100%
now off for a minute to have cake
Absolutely em, but he's had long enough to do something about this, but leaves it until an important by-election to say anything about it. Then will, in all probablility, go back to doing nothing about it.
So when someone's run down in the street and they're taken to A&E at what point are you going to check their nationality?

During CPR?

If they have a communicable disease like Tuberculosis, you're going to kick them out so into a crowded tube station?

None of those, just treat them the same as we would be treated in their countries.
That's not an answer

NHS treatment for foreigners covers
Treatment for accidents and emergencies
Compulsory psychiatric treatment under a court order
Treatment for certain communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis.
Family planning services.

And that's it

- OK you could argue the last one - but are you really going to leave people dying after an accident?

- are you going to not treat people with communicable diseases?

All this is spin - the rules are there and they're perfectly adequate
Cameron holds a meeting to discuss it then hands the problem for a minister to take charge. It then gets put into the long grass hoping the media will forget all about it blaming the EU or human rights. We can lecture other countries how democracy works but when it comes to home matters he tells us our voices don't matter.
If we do start being hard on health tourists and yes that means refusing point blank to treat them, then word would soon spread around the world that we no longer are an easy touch, job done.
The media are causing the problem

They love to stoke the "Blame the foreigners" fires and quote numbers like £40 million a year!

like this

Any chance they might put this in context?

How much of the NHS budget is this?

0.04% !!!

Let to listen to these people foreigners are draining our NHS and robbing us blind

I think the NHS should have bigger fish to fry don't you?
whilst you are treating one foreigner that has bunked into the country on a freebie, someone who has paid all their life into our system, is sitting on a waiting list, come on let's be fair here. You times that by many, and we have a long waiting list for treatment. And no it's not just the mail that pulls up these stories, ask any fluffing doctor sure they can tell you the same.
em

Did you read my earlier post about what foreigners can get NHS treatment for?

Did you read my post about the tiny percentage of the budget goes in treating foreigners?

Do you have any evidence at all for what you just posted?

Any numbers? Any verifiable facts?

Don't you mean that is not the answer you wanted?

For those who want a multi-ethnic society this is one of the drawbacks.
Be careful with this statement A.O.G. I have been slated in my post for been racist. To add, there is a problem, we know there is a problem, we can see the problem, how is it them idiots in their Ivory Tower at the side of the Thames can not. What's next? Your Empty bedroom are to be given to the next shower of muggers, rapist, thieves, dead beats, scroungers?

Wake up Brtain, I dare not say it's too late.
Oh come on people what is the problem with foreigners? Without them we would be a small island worth nothing. Now we are one of the leading nations in the European Union. We need the foreigners more than they need us. Who would want to come for a measly few pounds here and there, a failing nhs and constant rain? As far as I am concerned it is us that needs them.
we are not one of the leading nations in the EU, that goes to Germany, then France, and they have their own immigration problems. Angela Merkel said as much some time back.
jake -the - peg. you love the hyperbole ( and I don.t blame you)

You love your facts and your " links" ( no objection to that)

The waybforna foreigner to get free NHS treatment isbto get registered with a GP....that apparently is very simple as the GP then gets paid. Once on the GP list their NHS is their oyster....all free treatment.

Road traffic accidents, treated without finding out their nationality, as anywhere else in the world. Who pays will be sorted out later.

But no...you are correct, if the British public want free health care for the world..........fine.
