It often says on rental agreements under the tenant doing basic mantenance on the house, it says about opening windows often - which must be for ventilation to stop damp or mould, but why would they say to open curtains, does light effect a room, would it also reduce possible ventilation through the drip feeds of the double glazing if the cutains were shut all the time?

Any thoughts why they would say to open curtains, thanks.

Ventilation is often mentioned in tenancy agreements but I've never seen anything about curtains. It would be difficult to enforce anyway. You're right in that opening windows is only mentioned to avoid mould building up.
Why would you want to keep your curtains closed, are you hiding something?
if you have thermal curtains and windows which get a lot of condensation, not opening the curtains can trap the condensation and cause more mould. i guess any curtains can trap air and therefore water vapour.

open your curtains and the windows - let the day in!
Agree with all of the above abers.
A house has to breath and keeping curtains closed would not help any damp or mould.
In fact, it is a good idea to open the windows once a day at least even though just for a short time.

cheekychops lol yes I was wondering if I have to open the curtains in my sex dungon lol
Could have something to do with preventing tenants setting up a drugs factory? This has happened to landlords before, where tenants use the house to grow hundreds of cannabis plants, with huge sodium lights and all natural light shut out with the curtains shut!
