Anyone who tries this should always be aware of the fire risk from candles.
My grampa used to do that in his greenhouse in the winter to keep the chill out.

It doesn't make the room toasty hot, but it does take the edge off the cold.
^There is that too, sandy. You do have to watch that you don't burn the house done at the same time.

Question Author
At least, If you did, you wouldn't be cold until the fire brigade came and put the fire out.
I've never thought about doing it in the house. I usually have it going in the front porch to keep the chill of the wellies and jackets out there.

A very short thread on this topic already exists

A short thread, it's burnt itself out, then?
I think it's a 'lot of hot air'. Did I hear the chap say at the end of the video "8p per day, plus electricity".? I counted five lamps in his small office. Possibly more heat from the lamps and computer than the flowerpot arrangement.
Yes Sandy those tealight wicks aren't up to much.
My favourite from the comments on your link Sandy...

"Apparently, EDF have bought out all the candle factories, and are now putting the price of those little tea lights up to £8 each, not least of all to cover green taxes, stealth taxes and the Tory Christmas party fund tax.

The price of flower pots is expected to rise soon as well..."
Just remember that some plastic flower pots are made to look like ceramic pots. Lidl are selling packs of 50 Tealights for only €2.5 (in France) so now you can heat your house for even less (than a lot).
An even cheaper way to heat your house is to burn old chip oil in a baking tray using old socks as a wick. If you haven't any old chip oil, I've heard that wood burns quite well and isn't expensive.
How is 50 tealights for 2.5 euros cheaper than 100 for £1?

The exchange rate isn't that good.
hc, it isn't, where can I get them @100 for £1, its beginning to make economic sense :o)
See the price rise has started already...

I have no doubt that it works but how would you do that in a house with kids in ! Or dogs ! I would be very nervous of fire risk.
apologies hc, the tealights in Lidl (uk)are £0.03 I can't think how I came up with € 2.5 per 50, in France.

I think we can all take a lesson from this. If something seems to good to be true, it probably is.
@jomifl....Sorry, I am lost by all your costings. Your latest is £0.03.... Per hundred, per tealight or is it just 'perhaps me'.... which should be extinguished.? A hot question for you to answer.:-)
alex, perhaps I should have said tea light costs £0.03. Ie each rather than for an indeterminate number :o)
