I recently went to an allotment flower & produce show in a mining village in S Yorks. As is usual, they ran a raffle, & I was notified last night that I'd won third prize. They delivered my prize this lunchtime...it was a food hamper, made up of donations from all the allotment holders & friends.
Well, I've never seen so much rubbish in my life....Tinned potatoes, creamed mushrooms, Netto budget coffee, Safeway basics cuppa soup etc.
I've also had a look at the sell-by dates....half of the stuff is out of date. There's a even Homepride cook in sauce dated 1995!!!
...This could only happen in Yorkshire...
My question is; has anyone on here won something, then found it totally useless, & worshipped at the temple of disappointment like me

Think yourself lucky, first prize was a cruise on the Titanic.
I won a comp and the prize was to have my carpets cleaned. They forgot to mention we'd have to sit through an hours long demonstration, OH asked him to leave after 10 minutes...
I would have expected a hamper of home grown veg. How ridiculous.

Found out that the 1st prize was £50-00 voucher for a womans hairdresser.LOL
It's awful when raffles consist of prizes that people have obviously used as a reason to get rid of unwanted gifts and tinned food that is out of date. I usually manage to get bath salts or soap. I usually give bottles of wine if asked for raffle prize.
This could only happen in Yorkshire...

Why......do the rest of the country not have Netto?
Yes we do Craft...we just use it ;-)
PS
Can I have your creamed mushrooms?

I once won a long weekend at a luxury hotel of my choice from an assortment of 20.I had to give a booking code before booking and on each occasion was told"sorry all booked up for those dates" couldn't get in anywhere until after the expiry date, total con !! I have heard the same story from others.

Creamed mushrooms...out of date by 2yrs boo. You can have them & give 'em to sqad:-)
I often get letters saying I've won first prize in a Reader's Digest competition.
I still take exception to your remark carrust.....
No need to craft, i really wouldn't feed 'em to sqad ;-)
lol Boo that's the part I didn't mind.

carrust is obviously disappointed with his prize and if it was me I would drop a line to the show organisers. However to state that this 'could only happen in Yorkshire' is blatant stupidity.
I knew what you meant craft- was just trying to lighten the moment :-)
Boo = ray of sunshine.

I will when you've taken that foot out of yours.....
I won a voucher for a fhree months free membership at an upmarket spa and gym. I had to complete a questionaire which asked if I was on any medication. They ruled me unsuitable because I take pills for hyper-tension. Bar Stewards.
