Please can you tell me why my baskets of impatiens have lost their leaves and flowers. I have grown for many years and not experienced such straggly looking baskets. The roots seem firm and there are small leaves and flower buds appearing but do not seem to want to develop. Will they come good?

probably because it is too cold, especially at night. We are not having much of a summer in the UK.
If you have a greenhouse or conservatory take them in at night and give them a drink of rose fertiliser twice a week until they pick up which they soon will in a weeks time as the weather is going to warm up......so they say. It might help to cut some straggly stems back to about 2" but not all of them. Give `em` some sun and rain water if poss. Any cuttings will root easily in a jar of water.
Did you buy them already planted up? If so, they have come from Growers who force them too early.

When the baskets reach the natural element (out of the greenhouse) they wilt, especially in the drying winds we've had this summer.
