bay leaf tree

i had a bay leaf tree bought for me a week ago,i put it in a large pot in the garden but something has started to eat at it , the leaves seem to have had big bites taken out of them any idea what i can do? and what it could be. thanks

Possibly adult Vine weevil beetle. Take a look at the raggedy notches on the outside of the leaves http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/vinew eevil.htm Little devils come out at night, so diufficult to see!

thank you landscaper ,that looks like the problem ,some of the leaves are yellow as shown in the photo, have sprayed it with bug spray,but that sounds a bit useless, thanks again for your help.
Hi shanx, I agree with landscaper. Go to your garden centre and ask for Bio Provado Vine Weevil Killer. You water it onto compost in pots and containers and it will be effective for 6 months. It will kill off the grubs, which feed on the roots, before they develop into the adult weevils. Your bug spray will not be effective. Provado is also effective against blackfly/whitefly/greenfly. cheers pendelli
