Strawberries

This is their third year and I have lots of fruit already but they don't seem to be putting out any runners this year for me to pot on .They are not in the ground but in a strawberry pot and various other containers .Are they past their sell by date and shall I chuck them once finished fruiting and get new for next year ? I have had a few ripe fruits already and they taste OK !

Oh Vin your story about your Dad made me cry. as I have close associations with adoption. What a handsome man your Dad was.
Going to see my niece playing in her band tonight. They are called Inominata and are playing for The Parkinsons Disease Charity. She plays the saxophone and sings. So I'll be having a bit of a rock.
Listening to Derby playing Reading this afto. Let's see if they get a more adept referee than last week.

Oh Neti you too...! I've got my bye-bye-kit-files in my safe deposit box at the bank and Spirit In The Sky is on the short list...! Also Outward Bound with Tom Paxton (it's not on YouTube, not with him), Nina Simone I wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free, Fire And Rain with James Taylor, Into The Mystic with Van Morrison or Jen Chapin the way she does it on YouTube... and Bach's chorale prelude BWV 639, which we had on my mother's funeral, H�rlig �r Jorden (a joyous hymn about the glory of the creation) and the Adagio from Mozart's clarinet concerto performed by Thea King, it's the most beautiful music I know. Here it is on the harmonica in honour of your dad, Vinny. You don't say but I suppose you would have included it in the story if he ever had gotten around to meeting his biological mother, late in life. I was a little bit smitten with Mario Lanza as a child... there was this movie on the telly about Caruso and Mario Lanza did that part and I took my own pocket money allowance savings and bought this piece of vinyl. I loved when he sang I'll Be Seeing You but I don't think that one was included here.
Inominata is such a good name for a band, Jude, you're expecting a church choir and out comes your niece on the saxophone, it's great.

That's a very sad story Vinnie as an adopted child myself I can understand this sort of thing .
I have to say though that I was a lucky kid the day my Mum and Dad took me on .
Just watched the Rememberance Festival .That's all a bit sad too.
Yes Neti Sarumite is a lovely chap .He's saved my sanity many a time especially with another certain user on here !

Gosh vinny you must have handsome genes...he looks like a lovely gentle man and a gentleman. I have never ever thought before about who specifically i wear my poppy for. I guess not just for my parents who happily both survived but for all those men and women who now have no one to wear a poppy for them.

The new (comparatively) memorial thats next to the Centaph is lovely. It commemorates women's part in the wars and has sculptures of women's uniforms and outer clothes all round it as though hung on pegs - quite touching
It was also nice to hear that a record number of poppies have been sold this year even with the current money problems.

Well I haven't got any more strawberry patches left .I do have a lots of leaves though after last nights gale !.
I also have a decimated passion flower .It's hanging there ...dead .My new neighbour seems set on eliminating anything green from the garden and is busy concreting everything in sight .Where it had crept into his garden he put weedkiller on it I spent ages training it around my garden seat .

good evening, what an awful wild wet day it's been but what lovely life stories you've been telling.
Yesterday was the funeral, very difficult but if there is such a thing as a good send off I have to say that it was the best, most moving & meaningful one I've ever been to. Not a vicar, nor a hymn or prayer in sight but a lovely lady from the humanist assoc who handled it perfectly (& my brother would have loved her, she was exactly his type of woman!). We had Forever autumn to go in, the Kinks' Days in the middle - a great song for saying goodbye to your mascara to - & his favourites, Abba, (thank you for the music 'cos he loved his music, pop quizzes etc) & in between was his life story & a couple of poems. It was lovely, just him & us & no more of the awful Parkinson's monster that had taken over our lives, especially in the past 5 yrs until we didn't know what to do anymore. Now it's all raw & empty but it'll get better.
I think it's a bit too soon for a grotto, we'd be in & out well before xmas, but it leaves time to sort one out & start gathering the rubbish...oops, sorry, luxury gifts....for ye ole bran tub. I'm sure someone's got a dusty old damp-proofed Q somewhere that we can spend November in.

I don't believe in a man at the pearly gates who decides on our misgivings .
I went to a humanist funeral a while back ( first one I have ever been to ) and I have been to many funerals in my time. It was so uplifting and I left feeling really upbeat afterwards in spite of of the sadness at the loss .
I think it's more realistic than all that praying and hymn singing . Although I suppose for those who believe in everlasting life that also brings comfort and I go along with that if it means that I have to go through all that mumbo jumbo .I would never not see someone off who meant a lot to me because of others beliefs .
Watching that rememberance service yesterday brings home the reality that it doesn't matter what or whom we are really .
You can fight for your country and die a heroes death or you can be a normal person and die from whatever .We are all just a blip in the great scheme of things. Glad he got a good send-off, Robinia, from whoever, and to wherever. Funerals are for the survivors so they're best if you come away feeling better.

Evening, biddies, if there's anything I'm known for it's a dusty home - and I've got loads of potential biddy dens too. Question is, will the Ed be less inclined to look kindly on a "this-is-where-we're-moving-next" email from me than from some more diplomatic biddy citizen, me having challenged him somewhat in Suggs. I wouldn't do so in this type of email, of course, but still, I'd understand yous if you didn't want me to be a hostess right now. You think about it biddies and tell me if you want me to go ahead.

Thank You For The Music - always thought of that song as quite honest, you know, not written primarily to become a hit but to express... thanks. I'm not one for religious mumbo jumbo either Shaney but like you I'd never let it stop me from liking someone I like or from participating in their ceremonies, if they'll have me. Ha ha, I remember my mother in her old age once said she had been listening to the radio earlier that day to "such a lovely minister, he was wonderful, he spoke so well and didn't go on about God". I think my mother was a believer when I was a child, but hers was a gentle god who knows your heart and loves you for it so that was a good thing for a child to grow up believing, for as long as it lasted. I certainly understand the need for spirituality though, just can't connect with my childhood god anymore. Oh well... good night my biddy friends <3 we have each other.

Have been for blood tests and my arm swelled up alarmingly so am ignoring it and hoping it'll go away, it's jolly sore too, but in the great scheme of things I guess that's nothing to complain about.
Yes Robi</B those humanist services are lovely, perfect for these days. My father-in-law had one and it was so nice and comforting. I, of course, want the huge religious wailing and rending of clothes and grief and despondency and people being really miserable. But it has to be in the sunshine, I couldn't stand to go into the wall on a rainy dark day. We, here go into niches in walls, I hate it, and hopefully when my time comes, we'll be allowed cremation (which is oloy reserved for Aids related death at present!)
Well having cheered you all up immensely, I shall go about my business, of housework! Catch yer laters!

I hink we've all had a dig at the new Ed. Kit, I did it by email...never got a response. Robi I am glad that the service was okay.PD is the absolute pits, I have known many brave and wonderful people with it while I was working. One and all they were an inspiration, not because they were especially good or saintly but because they were normal people faceing a **** situation with great dignity.
