Strawberries And Mint

This year, because they spread that way, I have strawberries growing in amongst my apple mint. I have had the best crop ever and they have not been attacked by slugs or snails or birds. Could it be that the apple mint is acting as a deterrent, does anyone know if this is likely or have I just been lucky.
