Allium Bulbs............???? I Bought Some Last Autumn And This Year They Grow

and was so beautiful. Now they have gone over........the heads are dead now and going off. What do I do with them.?? Cut them off at the bottom of stem.? Can I then replant them again or do I have to wait until they dry out and autumn.? Many thanks.

Wait for them to dry, then cut back the dead stems and leaves. Some nutrients may be absorbed back into the bulbs, so unless you spot any disease, like rust etc, I'd leave them to die back.
They should come back year after year.

Thankyou. It seems I have two different ones as some had a different head and was shorter. They have been planted in the wrong place.....my husband planted them at the front of the boarder!! Lol. So therefor I want to move them. Can I do it when completely dead or will I have to wait. X

What sort of Alliums are they? The only alliums in my garden are Allium Triquetrum, otherwise known as Three-cornered Leek, Wild Garlic etc., and it grows like a weed, and would take over the garden (and probaly the County) if we let it. Fortunately, the whole plant is edible, we use it like shallots, spring onions, chives etc., and the pretty flowers are nice on salads. You'll gather I am no Monty Don.

These ornamental alliums are spectacular aren't they!?, they always remind me of a firework display!
I guess once they have died down a bit, they should be dormant enough to withstand being moved to the back of the border.

Leave them until the leaves have died down, then lift and replant them.

Just leave them... walk away and leave them... then next year and especially the year following you'll be able to remind yourself that you should have never planted m inthe first place.

For what little joy they provide with a short blooming season you pay the price in attempting to keep the little self-seeders corralled. They'll soon enough make themselves at home in every little crook and nanny they can find and they can find them all...
