Does anyone know about an invasive weed called sorrel? It seems impossible to get rid of from lawns as it seems to enjoy the selective weedkiller in my lawn fertiliser - perhaps this weed is actually a member of the grass family. Description - it has long spreading roots and tiny pinkish red flowers at this time of year.
Thanks for your replies, Trimresurus and Starbuckone. You could each just have said that you have no idea how to get rid of sorrel from lawns. Eat it, indeed!
I thought if it was a herb it might be edible. Otherwise, you are right I don't know. Even so, if you post on Chatterbank, you will get lots of peculiar answers, mine included.
obviously not Sorrel as that is a large leaved plant that would be eradicated by regular mowing alone and it is not a weed Sorrel is a food plant and although bitter is popular in eastern european cuisine as it is vitamin rich and grows well in places with much colder winters. tiny pinkish red flowers sound more like a pimpernel or maybe a smaller polygonatum . Most weeds will eventually succumb to regular raking mowing and doses of weedkiller as it destroys the top growth so it can't survive (raking lifts it clear of the ground so the mower gets more of it)
