For the 2nd time today I've dealt with a patient who is described as being having morbid obesity.

I've never really understood that expression. I mean, apart from the odd few (and there are special sites for that sort of interest), most people would be a bit morbid about being obese wouldn't they? I can't imagine many people would be happy about being enormous, and going round singing & dancing "Whay hey, I'm a fat 'un I am..."). You don't describe patients as having happy fatness.

(Yes, sqad, I know what morbid means in the 'medical' sense, I've just always found it strange terminology. It's one of my word 'things').

Oh Lordy, I've just read that back to myself. I've posted some stupid almost intelligible questions in the past, but none quite so daft as that one..... ;-(
Sorry peeps.

but then again - it might well lead to an interesting semi-related discussion?
i have an over whelming urge to go dancing throught he sles office singing "whay hey i'm a fat 'un i am.... whilst munching on a cake

I sing it in a Georgie accent "Waay aay man, I'm a fat 'un and I don't care..." when eating those cheap pink tinned hot dogs dripping with onions and red sauce....

Does that make me odd ummm?

i usually read it as morbidly obese.

morbidly as in 'psychologically unhealthy or unwholesome' seems to fit in my view.
I'm lost for words.....

(enjoy it - it doesn't happen very often).
ffs who's Georgie?
Yes...afraid so :-)

I know that's the medical definition or terminology Ankou - but I've always associated the word 'morbid' with someone a bit Gothic in temperament - unhappy etc. Like I said, it's a word thing combined with the strange workings of my mind ..... !
psml i was on my own in the office and 'trying' the saying out in a goergie accent and my boss came in......

he really thinks i've lost it now!
*geordie* even
