Following recent boiler service the engineer advised that the flue to my potterton profile gas boiler does not comply with current regs as I have installed a cantillever carport canopy over. the flue is about 200mm below roof of canopy & about 450mm in from the back end. Can the flue be extended through 90 degrees up through roof & then through 90degrees again to keep the rain out? will this proposed solution effect the performance of my boiler?

You dont say which model Profile you have if you have the installation & user guide for the boiler, you will see that it contains the minimum distance requirements for a flue, venting in a car port area.

The most powerful of the range (profile 100) requires a minim distance from an end wall of 300mm and below a car port roof of 200mm however this 200mm is taken from the lowest roof height of the car port.

If you post the model, I can supply the min distances for that particular model.

Although the regulations may have changed they will not apply retrospectively to existing installations.

Be warned many so called boiler engineers carry a six-shooter and wear a ten-gallon hat.
what hymie says about existing installations not having to comply with new regulations is not strictly true, and in any case this is nothing to do with regulations, this is you altering your property which means the installation no longer meets the boiler manufacturers installation instructions, which is a big no no. it all depends on whether the car port you have added now makes your installation dangerous or not. if it does then it needs to be remedied.

you would not have to turn the flue thru another 90 degrees to keep the rain out as you can buy a roof terminal designed for the job.

the best bet in cases like this is to get all the measurements and ring the boiler makers tech help line for their advice.

i would suggest that your engineer is far from a cowboy as a cowboy would not have bothered to go outside and examine the flue in the first place.
