I want to paint over our kitchen tiles (I know you can get tile paint) but my husband says it will be a waste of time and money. Any comments would be appreciated

I did my kitchen with the paint prior to selling a house.
It went in very well and looked great. I would use it again.
I sold the house.

thanks cab, i will keep this in mind
I did the other way round. I painted our kitchen tiles when we moved in, and they lasted a couple of years till I could replace the kitchen. I painted them a dark red colour over old blue flowery tiles. Just make sure you clean the tiles well first.
Hi jw, I personally would agree with your husband. You would have to make sure all grease and dirt is off the tiles before painting them and if you clean them regularly the paint will soon start to come off or crack. With the time it would take to do a decent job it is better to take them off and start again. This is my opinion as I have seen this done in the past.
As above it's ok for a short term facelift but it will soon look naff, and the paint will start to peel off etc.
i was never convinced of tile paint until my son-in-law done the kitchen in the house they moved into approx 18months ago, due to lack of finance and time they needed a quick option to tide them over for a few years.
Bearing in mind the kitchen units & worktops were replaced so everything was new the painted tiles were more than acceptable the chances are it wont be tiled now.
Not tried kitchen tiles but did use tile paint in the bathroom and unbelievably in the shower cubilcle, 3 years on the bathroom is still good but a little paint is started to peel in the shower cubicle. Will have to re-tile but it was a good, cheap stopgap.Oh, the shower is in daily use.
