Several months ago my over bath gravity fed shower started playing up. I had to turn the temp. handle round much further to get hot water. For some reason that corrected itself, but today I'm getting no hot water at all, even tho the hot tap for the bath is fine. Any ideas anybody, please!

sounds like a faulty shower valve jo.................is it thermostatic?
Question Author
I don't think it's thermostatic, but how do you tell? I'm thinking the hot water pipe is furred up?

Hello Builder,
What does a valve do? As far as I can see there are two pipes that go into the shower thingy. They are fed by the hot and cold water pipes. The hot water pipe going into the shower unit does not feel that hot, so maybe the pipe is furred up?
Helpless, with no shower!
depending on how and where it's connected.........the hot supply may not heat up a lot until some water is drawn....................it sounds like your valve (lever) is stopping it from getting through.................

Ok - that makes sense, so I obviously have to get a plumber in (or is this something that a handyman can do?) Problem is I don't know the make of the shower so I don't know how to go about getting a replacement valve.
God bless you for spending time helping me on this!
jo90..........sorry I haven't able to reply to you sooner.
It certainly isn't an advanced plumbing job to replace the shower valve, but, it does need some experience of these things. Without being able to see it, or note the make, I can't help. I wish I could.
Ask around for a recommendation for a decent plumber. Try your local builder's merchants, or the trade counter at a plumber's merchants. There are plenty of good tradesmen about who wouldn't take you for a ride.
Good luck

Thank you so much for your time - we'll be taking baths for a while I guess! Why doesn't my son become a plumber? I could keep him in work for years!
